Trasylol Recall

May 14, 2008—More than two years after the New England Journal of Medicine published a study linking Trasylol to kidney failure, the FDA announced that Bayer AG has agreed to remove Trasylol from the market.

The decision came on the heels of a second study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found patients given Trasylol had a more than 50 percent higher rate of death in the 30 days following surgery than those who were given other, cheaper drugs.

permax recall

Permax Recall

March 29, 2007—The FDA announced Permax would be withdrawn from the market over concerns of serious heart valve damage.

Patients taking Permax should immediately contact their physicians to discuss alternative treatments. The FDA warns that patients should not stop taking the medication before speaking with their doctor, as abruptly stopping Permax can be dangerous.
